Recent Status of Reserve Forests in Sribhumi (Karimganj) District (Assam) using Forest Canopy Density (FCD) Model

Forests are vital to Earth's biosphere, and their decline can lead to significant ecological imbalance. Therefore, monitoring forest status is of utmost importance. This study focuses on the reserve forest of Sribhumi (Karimganj) district, Assam—an understudied yet biodiverse region in Indiautilizing remote sensing and GIS to estimate forest canopy density. Results showed dense forest cover was extremely low (0.1% to 5.4%), while moderate forest cover was high (26.4% to 51.2%). Open forest cover was also significant (23.8% to 43.4%), and non-forest areas were substantial (19.6% to 37.2%). These findings highlight recent forest density patterns and threats, providing models for future use in other locations and opening avenues for further research in the present study area.
